Katherine Poggensee

Assistant Professor

Education

PhD | Mechanical Engineering, Stanford University
MS | Mechanical Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University
BS | Movement Science/Mathematics, University of Michigan

Executive Summary

Katherine Poggensee received bachelor’s degrees in Movement Science and Mathematics from the University of Michigan, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. Before joining the University of Delaware in 2026, she was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral researcher at Erasmus MC and TU Delft in The Netherlands. She is also a UD Cochran Scholar and holds appointments in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Biomechanics and Movement Science Program.

Dr. Poggensee studies wearable robotic devices and how people interact with them. Her research draws on theory and methodologies in robotics, biomechanics, and neural control of movement to improve the implementation of devices that aid or augment mobility and balance, such as exoskeletons or gyroscopic backpacks.
